Baking Bread!

For the week, Glenbrae School has been doing science week. Yesterday with Mrs Parker, Mrs Parker decided bake bread. We all sat on the mat and got to take turns mixing and adding the ingredients into the bowl. As we finished up and got onto the kneading process, Mrs Parker picked some students to come and help her. I had a turn but I wasn't kneading hard enough so I let then next person go. Mrs Parker had split the dough into two pieces, we left one to rest for thirty minutes and the other half for one and a half hours.

As we cooked it until ready, Mrs Parker read us a book about baking bread. When she finished, the bread was ready. Mrs Card brought it to us. The thing we had to do was see what was the difference between the one that had a very long rest and the one that had a short rest time.

As I had a bite into both of them, I thought the one that had a shorter rest. I was really nice and soft. It had a little sour and sweet taste in it which made it even better.

It was very fun learning how to bake bread. It was a fantastic experience because I have never baked bread before. I was happy that I finally could.

Christmas with my family

A special time with my family :)

Christmas

It was a cold Morning, also know as Jesus’s Birthday. I breeze snuck underneath my bedroom door, while the sun shone through my bedroom window. I jumped out of my bed a headed into the living room. I saw a lot of presents underneath the beautiful Christmas tree. I was so eager to open them, but I had to wait until my family arrived to my house. My family usually comes over for Christmas to spend some time together, have some laughs, bring up memories and bond while we have the chance to. My family live in other places that are far from Glen Innes.

Finally, my family started to arrive, one by one. I was so happy to see all of my cousins and aunties that I haven't seen in such a long time. I was so happy as all of my family had arrived. My cousins and I went to play around while we had to wait to open our presents. But eventually, we did. What I received in my presents was a chocolate fondue, I got a whole lot more, but I forgot. My cousins and I talked, had laughs and brought up memories while my aunties were having a party outside. It was late, but we were still up late. Everyone slept at my house until the next morning, but I didn’t know how they could all fit, because there were so many people, in just four rooms!

But everyone started to leave one by one. Until everyone left, some of my cousins stayed at my house for one more night. We were so bored that we just went to the Glen Innes Aquatic Pool and Gym. We went into the cold pool. It was shallow at one end, but when you make your way to the other side it goes deep the shallow once you reach the other end.

Once we arrived home, my cousins parents were there waiting for them, I was sad because they all had to go. After everyone left, I went into my room and picked up a book off my shelf and it’s name was “Curiosity Killed the Cat” It is my favourite book because it has such a big mystery to it.

All I can say is, I was more than happy. I was over the moon because I got to see my family. I hadn’t seen all of them in almost a year! I was so happy! Christmas is my favourite time of the year because my well-known family comes.

My Maths Reflection

Today Cylinders were on the mat with Mrs Parker. I have been using a strategy and It makes my times tables easier. The question we got was 46 times 8. I drew eight circles and wrote 40 + 6 in each circle. First, I counted all of the 40's and it summed to 320. Next, I counted up all of the 6's and it summed up to 48.

I added added them up to 320 + 48 = 368

My foot print and height.

We learned to measure in m, cm and mm. I measured my foot length and it is 23 cm .
My height is 147 m.
My height is 6 times my foot length. We used non standard measurement.

My digital art work!

Today, Room 7 had to do a piece of digital art work using Sumo paint. I really like my art work because it has a lot of nice colours and shapes. I used contrasting colours and made it beautiful.

My art work, it has a lot of bright colours with a lot of shapes and flowers. I changed some of the colours and made them more brighter too.

Comparing NZ to Seoul

In Room 7, we have been working  on comparing Seoul to New Zealand. I have learned a lot about Seoul in the past 2 weeks. It has been fun learning about this.

Glenbrae four day week-end!

It was a four day weekend, why you ask? For Glenbrae students because on Monday it was the Queen’s Birthday and on Tuesday it was teachers only day. It was a chilly Saturday morning in Glen Innes, I looked out my window and saw that the grass tips were ice. A gentle breeze snuck under my bedroom door, which gave me the chills. I jumped out of my bed tiredly and washed my face with the freezing water that splashed the bottom of the sink. Today I was just going to watch movies, play games then go to Rally!

I was quite bored as the sun shone through my window. I started to play a little on my Netbook. When I finished playing on my Netbook, I watched a horror movie, called As Above, So Below. Its about 6 people (4 men and 2 girls) who go into an underground cave to help a  girl find what her father had been looking for his whole life. The had crawled through very tight places and tunnels just to find what they had been looking for. As the movie goes, all of the bad things that they have done, returns back to them and most of them die. E.g, one of the men that was with them, he didn’t want to go in the cave because his little brother drowned in a cave when they were both younger, but he a police came and they had no where else to go. They all walked past this cave with water in it, he looked very closely and he could see his brother drowning. As they carried along they came across a cave and it had words carved into it in another language, it said ‘Here opens the gate of hell.’ This is where I got terribly afraid. They all crawled through the tunnel and they went into all of the same rooms that they had been into before they got into there. All of the entrances were gone and everything was upside-down, but all they had to do was keep going down. Another one of the girls went into this room and saw this circle in the ground, they all helped her to push it open. They crawled through the hole and they were on the road, but only 3 survived.

After I had watched the movie I had goose-bumps, but yet I still liked the movie.

As the movie ended I slowly got ready for Rally. Rally is just like Youth, where we had different activities we do every Tuesday. Today's activity was Dark Games, this activity is my favourite activity they do at Rally. Everyone got split up into 2 groups. The first activity we had to do was ‘Guess the drawing.’ Someone had to go to one of the leaders and ask what they had to draw. Most of them were easy and some of them were hard too. After we finished that game we moved on to this game where we had to dress up into weird clothing (Purple long pants, striped ribbon across my head, butterfly wings and a flower necklace) It was hard because we had to find 3 things in just a little amount of time in the basement, but my friend, who was the one who hid them all helped me find them all because I took a while. I marched up the stairs as my group was waiting for me patiently.

Next, after everyone had their turn we played a game balled base. What we had to do in this game was, we had to throw a ball anywhere we liked around the room, run to as many bases as we could before they caught the ball and through it below your knee . The highest score I got was at least 6.

Meanwhile, we played a game, it doesn't really have a name but what we had to do was we had 4 things and we had to build like a parachute or something that could keep 3 marshmallows in the cup, without using a lid. The materials that we got were a paper cup, 3 rubber bands, a piece of cardboard, 10 straws, tape and some newspaper. My leader had a great idea, he said that we would tape the cardboard to the cup which made the cup stay still on the cardboard. Put the rubber bands on the top, it isn't really a lid but it done a great job. All we used was just 3 things and it made the marshmallows stay in the cup. After everyone had finished, one of the leaders went on the roof by the attic, and took groups presentations one by one. When it had come to our teams turn, I was shaking because I was scared that it wouldn't stay in. But she gently threw it down and the marshmallows stayed in. I was so happy that they did and the rest of my team was too.

Finally, after tonight's session we had supper. When we all finished having supper, one of the leaders (David) called out which car we were going in and what leader we were going with. As we all jumped out of rally and hopped into the soft seats of the car. The leader dropped me off home, I lied down peacefully in bed and dozed off into a deep sleep.

On Wednesday morning I woke up and got ready for a busy day at at school.

Our Photo Scavenger Hunt

In Room 7 we have been working on something called a Photo Scavenger hunt. The class got spread into groups and I was with Davarni, New-Sam, Setaita, McKenzie and Simeon. Our photographer was Setaita and the back up person was Davarni. Doing this challenge was really fun, we had a little laugh at all of the photos. I was glad that we finished it in time, some of us even did it at home for homework. Our team cooperated very nicely with no arguments. We all learned the rule of thirds which made our photography even better.

We all hope you enjoy our awesome presentation.

POP! Goes the Balloon

As the morning began and the fog slowly faded away, Mrs Raj told Room 7 that we were going to play a balloon game. What we all had to do was, we all had to hold hands in a circle on the court and try to make the balloon stay in the air. We played this game for fitness and also to help us write a recount about the game afterwards.

As we glanced onto the court, the girls had to wait for the boys to have their turn first. When the boys were playing, the girls went for a jog around the court while they were playing. The balloon slowly went up and came down, a couple of the boys fell down letting the balloon to bounce off the ground and finally it was the girls turn.

We all hopped in a circle with all our arms linked and patiently waited for Mrs Raj to throw the balloon in the air. When she threw the balloon into the air, we were all competitive against each other, but we still worked as a team. As the game went on and on, the excitement grew more and more. The class members that were near the hill always had the balloon, so they pulled us towards the field, it was funny because we slowly made our way up the hill and onto the field. There was a slight breeze which made the balloon stay in the air, as well as us hitting it made it stay up. All of a sudden, the balloon went out of the circle and no one was strong enough to pull all of us towards it and we all just heard a POP!

As the balloon popped we all laughed because we didn’t see it coming. We all got a fright, but the game was still fun. I felt joyous because of the fun game we played. We all worked as a team and tried hard to keep the balloon in the air. I hope everyone had fun, because I sure did!

Actions speak louder than words

WALT: use conjunctions to extend sentences.
SC: use conjunctions to add more detail to an idea.

You need to persuade the reader, explaining to them whether you agree or disagree with this statement

Give examples and explain why

Actions speak louder than words.

Begin here…

Actions can hurt you more then words can because your words can’t hurt people, it can only affect them but actions shows a lot more of your feelings.

Actions speak better than words because if you were to say something kind with a bad attitude, it shows that actions speak a lot more than words do.

Actions speak better than words because if you promise someone that you are going to bring them something (E.g Ice Cream) and then don’t bring it, their actions are better than what they say.

Poles of Respect

Property: By picking up a piece of rubbish I can stop the world’s pollution and save animals from dying.  If my teacher were to tell me to pick up a piece of rubbish, I would do it straight away. By doing this, it shows that my actions speak louder than my words

Others: If someone is injured and they ask me to help them, I help them straight away, by doing that, I know that my actions are louder than my words. This shows that my actions are speaking louder than my words.
Learning: If my teacher told me to finish my mathematics in 10 minutes, I would probably finish it a minute early. By finishing it a minute earlier, it definitely means that my actions are speaking louder than my words.

Environment: If my teacher told me to pick up a piece of rubbish from outside, I would pick it up straight away and put it in the bin. My putting the rubbish in the bin, I could stop the word from pollution and animals dying.

Self: If my mum told me to stay hydrated and stay healthy, I would stay healthy. By staying healthy, this shows that my words are speaking louder than my words.
