What causes seasons and Why we have them.

Do you ever think about how we have seasons? I used to think about that all the time, but now I know how they work.

Seasons are caused on the tilt of the Earth’s axis. Half of the earth is leaning towards the sun meanwhile the other side is faced away from the sun, but as the Earth spins, the other side of the earth gets sunlight.

When it is Summer, the days get longer and the nights get shorter, but in winter, the days get shorter and the nights get longer, isn’t that confusing? The days are longer in summer because the Earth’s Southern hemisphere (Where I am) is faced towards the sun which direct heat, meanwhile the Northern Hemisphere is having winter.

The seasons all depend on the sun, the tilt of the Earth’s axis and the way the Earth rotates. Without seasons the Earth would probably be boring and cold. There would be no fun too.

Stardome Observatory

Today, the senior students of Glenbrae School got to go on a school trip to the Stardome Observatory. What we had to do first was sit down outside of the Observatory and have a 10 minute snack time. I sat down with a group of friends and my mum, she also came along on the trip.  Room 7 and Room 8 went inside of Stardome first while room 9 and 10 stayed outside until we were done. We went inside and saw all of the exhibits and presentations. Room 7 went inside of a room called the 'Space Room,'. Inside of the Space Room, there was a lady waiting in there for us, I forgot her name but she told us a lot of information.  We learned a lot about how the Solar System works, how the sun was formed and a lot more. I also learned that Venus is hotter than Mercury, even though Mercury is closer to the sun! After we had learned about the Solar System in the Space Room we went outside to the Room with all of the exhibits and got to look at everything and read a lot of facts. When we finished looking around, we got to go into another room but it was a different room. We all lined up and went into the room. There were a lot of seats and when I looked up there was a hole in the roof, but it wasn't really a hole, it was where we were going to watch the movie on. I went to the back and sat down, the seats are leaned back so that you can look into the sealing to watch the movie. We all took a seat while the show started. The lady told us some things about what we are going to watch. We all looked up as the movie started. The movie started with two children, one older sister and one smaller brother, the older sister was working on a project about the seasons and the little brother was playing with his toy robot. He bumped his robot into her project and crazy weathers and seasons were going on in her room, but most of it was just imagination. All of a sudden, her brother went to go get his toy space ship to go for an adventure into space to see how the seasons work. The trip to space was just using their imagination, but as they went into space they could see how the seasons work and she learned all about the Earth's axis. When they tried to go back home, they accidentally landed in Antarctica! They looked very cold, eventually they ended up getting home. When they did, she started to fix up her project and get it done. After that session we went outside while the other classes went inside for their turn. We had our lunch and play time. The classes were done, then finally it was time to go. I was very tired, so I fell asleep on my friends shoulder.
